KUALA LUMPUR: The domestic market saw signs of a strong rebound in the opening minutes of Friday trade after a dismal week plagued by economic uncertainties and global inflation fears.At 9.25am, the benchmark FBM KLCI was up 9.62 points to 1,528.47, ahead of the announcement of the country 3Q gross domestic product result.Suggesting optimism in the economic recovery, bank stocks were seen taking the early lead with Maybank rising five sen to RM8.05 and Public Bank adding two sen to RM4.04. CIMB was up one sen to RM5.02 while Hong Leong Bank remained untraded at the time of writing.Aluminium producer Press Metal was also seen bouncing back six sen to RM5.35 after its recent declines.Petronas Chemicals gained four sen to RM8.34.The broader market also looked slightly optimistic with 271 counters rising compared to 228 on the decline.Most actively traded shares were NWP up 2.5 sen to 36 sen, Kanger adding 0.5 sen to four sen and DNeX gaining 0.5 sen to 83.5 sen.Analysts are predicting that Malaysia's economy contracted over the third quarter of the year due to the rise in Covid-19 infections and nationwide lockdown measures implemented in May.A poll of 20 Reuters economists forecasts a 1.3% contracted in the July to September months from a year earlier.However, expectations are that the economy will gain momentum in the fourth quarter of the year as the government's Budget and gradual economic reopening spur growth.Overnight on Wall Street, the Nasdaq Index rebounded 0.5% to 15,704.28 as investors bought into heavily sold down technology stocks.The Dow Jones however slipped 0.4% to 35,921.23 as Disney erased 7% from its market valuation on the back of a disappointing earnings result.
