Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham said three more Covid-19 cases have been discovered at Parliament, bringing the total number of infected individuals who were involved during July 26 Dewan Rakyat sitting to 17.
He said the latest three infected persons were fully vaccinated. He also noted that they had a high infectivity rate.
"All of them had mild symptoms and had prior to this been fully vaccinated.
"Investigations also showed that they had taken precaution by undergoing quarantine after returning from Parliament so that they do not infect their family members," he said in a statement today.
Noor Hisham said efforts are underway to trace their close contacts and also to identify the variant responsible.
He also advised all individuals who attended the Parliament sitting to take precautions and monitor their health.
"If they show symptoms, get tested for Covid-19 immediately," he said.
The Dewan Rakyat sitting was supposed to last until Aug 2.
However, the government suspended the sitting on July 31, citing the Covid-19 cases.
Critics accused the government of trying to stall Parliament amid disagreements with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who wanted the emergency ordinances debated in the House and an uncertain majority.
Noor Hisham said apart from the 17 cases discovered during the sitting, three close contacts were also infected, putting the total cases at 20.
Including another 60 cases that were discovered during a pre-sitting screening, the total Parliament-related cases stood at 88, he added.
